Who we are

This policy explains how the Bangladesh Society for Law and Economics (BSLE) handles personal information on its website, bsle.org, and when you correspond with us. BSLE is responsible for the personal information described here.

For any privacy question or request, write to info@bsle.org.

Information we collect

When you visit the website

Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically records technical information when pages are requested, such as your IP address, browser type, the pages visited and the time of the visit. These server logs are used for security and to keep the site running, not to identify individual visitors.

When you email us

If you write to us, we receive your email address, your name and whatever you choose to include in your message and any attachments.

When you use the message composer

The composer on our Contact page works entirely in your browser. It does not send or store what you type; it opens a draft in your own email app or in Gmail, and you decide whether to send it.

People featured on our website

Profiles of BSLE’s office-holders, advisers and team members, including names, roles, photographs, short biographies and links to public profiles such as LinkedIn and ORCID, are published with each person’s consent.

We do not ask for sensitive information such as health, financial, biometric or genetic data. Please don’t include it in messages unless it is genuinely necessary.

How we use information

  • To read and reply to your enquiry, and to follow up on the collaboration, partnership, event or opportunity you asked about.
  • To present BSLE’s people and activities on the website, with consent.
  • To keep the website secure and working properly.

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling or automated decision-making, and we do not send newsletters or marketing email unless you ask us to.

Cookies and browser storage

You do not need to accept any cookies to use this website, and we do not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. WordPress sets cookies only for site administrators who sign in, to keep them signed in. Our pages do not save information in your browser’s local storage.

Services we rely on

HostingerHosts the website and our email, and processes server logs and messages on our behalf.
Google (Gmail)Messages sent to our address are delivered to a Gmail inbox, where Google processes them under its own terms.

If you choose “Open in Gmail” on our Contact page, your draft is created in your own Google account under Google’s privacy policy. Links to other websites, such as LinkedIn, ORCID or publishers, are governed by those websites’ policies once you leave bsle.org. We do not currently embed videos, maps or other third-party content.

Sharing

We never sell or rent personal information. We share it only with the service providers listed above so they can run our website and email, with BSLE colleagues who need it to handle your enquiry, or where the law requires us to.

How long we keep information

  • Correspondence: kept only as long as needed to respond to you and to keep records of collaborations, partnerships and appointments, then deleted.
  • Server logs: kept by our hosting provider for a limited period under its own retention policy.
  • Published profiles: online while the person holds their role, or until they ask us to change or remove them.

Security

The website is served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, administrative access is limited to authorised BSLE personnel, and we keep WordPress and its components up to date. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • show you the personal information we hold about you;
  • correct it if it is inaccurate or incomplete;
  • delete it, or remove your published profile;
  • stop or restrict a particular use of it;
  • withdraw consent you have given, for example for a profile on our People page.

Email info@bsle.org with your request. We may need to confirm your identity, and we aim to respond within 30 days. BSLE aims to handle personal information in line with applicable law in Bangladesh, including the Personal Data Protection Ordinance, 2025.

Children

Our website is intended for university students, researchers and professionals. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We will update this policy when our website or practices change, for example if we introduce an online contact form, membership applications or website analytics. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised.
