The Bangladesh Society for Law and Economics (BSLE) is an interdisciplinary academic and research initiative dedicated to advancing the understanding of law through economic analysis and empirical evidence.
Who we are
BSLE seeks to connect legal scholars, economists, researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to examine how legal rules, institutions, and public policies influence economic incentives, individual behaviour, institutional performance, and social welfare.
Through interdisciplinary research, academic dialogue, policy analysis, and knowledge dissemination, BSLE aims to contribute to evidence-informed legal and economic policymaking in Bangladesh.
From rules to results
Law and economics follows a legal rule through the incentives it creates to the outcomes it produces for society. Select a step to see the question we ask there.
- What does the rule require, permit or penalise, and who does it apply to?
- How does the rule change the costs, risks and rewards that people and firms face?
- How do people, firms and officials actually respond?
- Do courts, regulators and markets work better or worse as a result?
- Who gains, who loses, and is society better off overall?
Our vision
To advance a society where legal institutions and public policies are informed by rigorous economic reasoning, empirical evidence, and interdisciplinary scholarship, contributing to effective governance, equitable development, and social welfare in Bangladesh.
Our mission
To promote the interdisciplinary study of law and economics in Bangladesh through rigorous academic research, empirical analysis, and evidence-based policy engagement. In pursuit of this mission, BSLE aims to:
